What should you know first?
Pressure washing uses controlled water pressure to lift buildup from durable surfaces such as concrete, pavers, and sound masonry. Soft washing relies on low pressure and an appropriate cleaning solution for siding, roofs, EIFS, and painted materials. Most properties need both methods in different areas.
Where pressure does the work
Concrete walks, driveways, loading aprons, and many masonry surfaces can hold compacted dirt that responds to pressure and even surface-cleaner passes. Even on durable material, the operator adjusts distance, angle, and pressure to the condition of the surface.
Older mortar, damaged concrete, and loose pavers require more restraint. Durable does not mean indestructible.
Where chemistry and dwell time do the work
Soft washing applies a cleaning solution at low pressure, allows time for it to act on algae and mildew, and then rinses gently. It is the appropriate starting point for vinyl, roofing, many painted walls, stucco, and EIFS.
The goal is not to make weak material tolerate high pressure. It is to choose a process that removes the cause of the staining without forcing water behind the exterior.
A mixed-method property is normal
A commercial property may have concrete walks, brick columns, metal panels, signage, and glass on the same elevation. A home may combine a concrete driveway, vinyl siding, asphalt shingles, a wood deck, and pavers. A professional scope identifies each surface before the work begins.
